Close to the Grand Bay beach is the black River Gorges national Park, which is a popular hiking destination with its natural rainforest, spectacular waterfalls and wildlife.
There are other beautiful beaches as well, like the Mont Choisy beach, which is the longest beach in Mauritius. The Pereybere beach has a deep lagoon which is perfect for snorkelling and other water sports.
Another popular beach destination is the Blue Bay Beach, on the eastern coast of the island. With crystal clear blue waters, the Blue Bay beach is close to the town of Mahebourg which has some resort facilities and hotels.
There is also the Tamarin Bay beach on the southwest coast of the island. Famous for its beautiful scenery, it is a big hit with surfers and hikers. From here one can see the volcanic mountains from prehistoric times. For those interested in outdoor activities, there is the Yemen National Park, through which the Tamarin River passes. There are many ecotourism tours and safaris available for those interested in outdoor activities.
