Leisure Activities in Mauritius
Surrounded by sandy white beaches, the tropical island of Mauritius offers great opportunities to relax and have fun. Water activities such as scuba diving and snorkelling keep visitors engaged. Almost every hotel or resort has a dive centre and provide all the needed equipment. Most of the snorkelling spots are close to the beach. Some of the well known sites are the Cathedral, Whale Rock and Roche Zozo.
Fishing, Sailing, Kayaking, water skiing and Surfing are also very popular with tourists. Sunset and starlight cruises are a wonderful way to relax. For avid bird watchers, there is the Casela Bird Park which encompasses a 20-acre stretch of parkland near the Black River District, and it is teeming with rare and exotic birds. Or visit Souillac, which offers a spectacular view of verdant gardens overlooking the sea.
At Belle Mare, one can enjoy a variety of French cuisine, Mauritian, Creole, Chinese, European and Italian. The beach restaurants offer great views of the ocean with seafood prepared in traditional Mauritian style for a wonderful dining experience. For kids, almost all the hotels have excellent kids' clubs and there is the Water Park Leisure Village and La Vanille Crocodile Park, home to dozens of animals, including Aldabra tortoises.
Mauritius is home to some of the best spas, especially the ones at the Hilton and Beau Rivage, offering wonderful therapy for the body and mind.
The island also has some of the world's best golf courses in the world at Belle Mare Plage, Le Telfair, Tamassa and Le Touessrok. Visitors can get private pro lessons and can hire clubs, balls and caddies.
