About Mauritius

Mauritius is a beautiful tropical island situated in the Indian Ocean, about 2400 km off the South East Coast of Africa. Coral reefs surround most of the coast. The picture postcard beauty of Mauritius with its idyllic beaches and turquoise lagoons makes it one of the most popular holiday destinations in the world. Mauritius has a truly cosmopolitan society, having a rich and mixed cultural heritage with Hindus, Muslims, and Christians living in perfect harmony. English, French and Creole are the languages spoken here though English is the official language. Port Louis is the capital of Mauritius and is a major town with plenty of tourist activity. Grand bay, Triolet Shilava, Preybere and ruins of Balaclava are some of the major tourist destinations.

There are plenty of hotels equipped with modern facilities where tourists can indulge in adventure sports like scuba diving, snorkelling and wind surfing. Horse racing is also a popular sport in Mauritius. Visitors need to dress modestly when visiting a religious place and cannot wear leather when entering a Hindu temple.

Should you wish to decide to spend your vacation in this tropical island paradise off the African coast there are a lot of hotel comparison sites and travel guides online which you can make good use of in your search for quality accommodations when staying in the island of Mauritius. The island country has well developed and maintained tourist infrastructure like its hotels and varied resorts which offer operational and personal services which are among some of the best in the world.

Mauritian cuisine is a medley of Chinese, Indian and French cuisines, adapted for local availability of vegetables, meats and seafood. Over the years, Mauritius has developed from a low-income, agriculturally based economy to a growing economy with flourishing industrial, financial, and tourist sectors.

The unadulterated beauty of Mauritius offers tourists a chance to relax and rejuvenate and gives them the much needed respite from the hectic schedules of city life.
